Turn your Mac Dashboard into an Investing Platform
In this article you will learn how to turn your Mac Dashboard into an Investing Platform. The other day while reading the Market News, I wondered if there was a place where I could get the most relevant news and all the market indicators from different websites into one simple site or application. Who ever creates this platform will make some money, but on the mean time I will teach you how to “create it” from your own Mac.
If you have clicked this article it is obvious that you own a Mac, as this strategy will only work for those who own a Mac OSX computer.
The process is fairly simple, it all starts with your Mac Dashboard, you can access it by swiping right on your mouse (Wireless mighty mouse), or by clicking the “Dashboard” button on your keyboard (It actually looks like a car dashboard).
If you have used the Mac Dashboard for the calculator, weather, and dictionary widgets only like I had, you have been missing in an incredible opportunity to help you become a better investor and save you a TON of time.
Here is the step-by-step process to turning your Mac Dashboard into an Investing Platform.
Step 1: Go onto your Mac’s Dashboard.
As I mentioned previously this process is done by clicking (F4) on your keyboard, or the car dashboard sign on it, or by swiping to your right on a mighty mouse or trackpad.

Step 2: Delete all the widgets that you won’t use.
This is done by clicking the (-) minus sign located at the lower left corner of your Dashboard and then hitting the (X) sign on the widgets you wish to remove.
Be honest, you are probably not going to use the “Wikipedia Widget”, you can do that by browsing on google in your browser. Remember you will need more space to insert all the Stock Market information in here.
For example, I just kept the Weather, Calculator, Stock, and Dictionary Widget.

Step 3: Open the Safari Application.
Safari has a powerful tool that allows you to “Clip” segments of a website and allocate them into your Dashboard. Once you have “clipped” and added the portion of whatever it is that you have decided will go onto your Dashboard, this will update automatically every time you access it. Think “Latest News” segment like the Wall Street Journal, Market Watch, etc..
The Tool is located by clicking “File” on your navigation menu (Top Left Corner, next to the Apple Icon), and then scrolling down onto “Open In Dashboard”
Once you have clicked the “Open In Dashboard” tab, hover your mouse to the section you wish to “Clip”. You can adjust it to include more or less content in your dashboard.
Click the “ADD” Button.
You will see the section selected is now on your dashboard. You can rearrange by holding it with your mouse and move it to its desired place.
Here is a list of links that I have used for my Dashboard:
Wall Street Journal: What’s News Section
Market Watch: Map of the Market and Latest News (on the News Viewer tab)
Seeking Alpha: Top Articles (For Stock Ideas)
Bloomberg: Industries, Commodities, Bonds, Etc..
Step 4: Enjoy your Final Product
As you may have noticed, this tool can help you reduce the time search for news and updates on the web. The most important thing is to get creative and try to include as many heat maps, indicators, headlines, top gainers/losers, and all the information you need to make the best investment decisions.
I personally use my Dashboard every morning to get an idea of what is happening in the markets and make the best investment decisions of the day.
